Pikeville Medical Center has announced the appointment of Michael Antimisiaris, M.D. as Director of PMC Heart Institute and Interventional Electrophysiology.<\/h3>\n

Dr. Antimisiaris is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.<\/p>\n

He joined the heart institute in 2009 as PMC\u2019s first electrophysiologist. He has performed thousands of procedures during his years at PMC. His previous experience includes a private practice he began in 1992 and an association with Cardiology Associates in Lexington. He is a highly respected physician and is credited as one of the founders of electrophysiology.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Antimisiaris has always been an integral part of our cardiology team,\u201d<\/em> said PMC President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Walter E. May. \u201cTo have a respected physician who is a pioneer in the field as our new Director of the Heart Institute and Interventional Electrophysiology is just one of many reasons why you don\u2019t have to travel out of the region for experienced and knowledgeable health care.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

During Dr. Antimisiaris\u2019 years of service at PMC, the electrophysiology department has been recognized as one of the region\u2019s first heart failure clinics to provide cardio Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) for outpatient heart failure monitoring.<\/p>\n

Dr. Michael Antimisiaris<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

He has been a special speaker at various symposiums and roundtable events at the University Of Kentucky and in Charleston and Huntington, W.Va.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with a great sense of gratitude and humility that I accept this new challenge,\u201d <\/em>said Dr. Antimisiaris. \u201cOur goal is to provide outstanding cardiac care to east Kentucky and the surrounding region. With the grace of God and continuing hard work, I am sure we will continue to be successful.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He has worked closely with the PMC physicians throughout the organization and plans to continue their collaborative efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have plans to revamp our pacemaker and internal cardio defibrillator (ICD) clinic,\u201d<\/em> said Dr. Antimisiaris. \u201cWe are in the process of making these clinics a 24-hour service, a great benefit for some of our most at-risk patients.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Antimisiaris says existing physician extenders will be receiving additional training in pacemaker and internal cardiac defibrillator interrogation and reprogramming.<\/p>\n

PMC Interventional Cardiologist, Muhammad Ahmad, M.D. will continue serving as Director of Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation.
\nAdditional appointments within the department include naming Chase Reynolds, M.D. as Director of the Electrophysiology Lab and Jimer Battaile who will continue as Director of Electrophysiology and will also fill the role of administrative assistant.<\/p>\n
